2.1 What is Tourism?
Tourism is a
mechanism and all part of travel sector activities which results from the
interactions of the people who travel for touristic purposes with the people at
the destination and institutions of the travel trade.
Tourism is
traveling for predominantly recreational or leisure purposes or the provision
of services to support this leisure travel. According to UNWTO, tourism
comprises the activities of persons travelling to and staying in places outside
their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure,
business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity
remunerated from within the place visited. UNWTO defines tourists as people who
"travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for not more
than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related
to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited".
